Commerce Resource Group Vendor & Procurement Briefings

About Commerce Resource Group

A small editorial practice writing about the commercial mechanics of buying from other businesses — terms, contracts, measurement and continuity.

Colleagues working together around a shared table in an open office
We write for the people who own purchasing without owning a purchasing department.

Who this is for

Commerce Resource Group is published by Sentinel Holdings I LLC for operators at small and mid-size businesses: the founder who signs the supply agreement, the finance lead who inherits the payment terms, the operations manager who finds out on a Tuesday that the only supplier of a critical part has gone quiet. These are people making consequential procurement decisions without a category manager, a legal department or a supplier-management platform behind them.

Large-enterprise procurement writing assumes resources most businesses do not have. Small-business writing tends to stop at “get three quotes.” The useful material sits between those two, and that gap is what we write into.

How the briefings are made

Each briefing starts from a question an operator actually asked — how to read 2/10 net 30, what to measure on a vendor review, whether a purchase order is enough. We work the question through: the underlying mechanics, the arithmetic where arithmetic applies, the standard practice, and the cases where standard practice is wrong. Then we cut everything that would not change a decision.

Where a briefing includes a calculation, the working is shown so you can check it against your own figures rather than take a number on trust. Where the answer genuinely depends on your jurisdiction, your industry or your contract, we say so instead of inventing a rule.

What we will not do

  • No invented statistics. We do not manufacture research findings or attach precise-sounding percentages to claims we cannot source. If we have not measured it and cannot cite it, we describe the mechanism instead.
  • No fabricated testimonials. There are no invented customer names, no stock headshots posing as clients, and no case studies assembled from imagination.
  • No paid placement. We do not take payment from suppliers, platforms or software vendors in exchange for coverage, ranking or recommendation, and we do not sell directory listings dressed up as editorial.
  • No borrowed credentials. No trade-association badges we do not hold, no certification marks we have not earned, no review scores we did not receive.

What we are not

We are not a law firm, an accountancy practice, a broker or a purchasing agent. Nothing published here is legal, tax or financial advice for your specific circumstances, and reading it creates no professional relationship. Take any agreement to a qualified adviser before signing it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we would rather hear it from you than leave it standing. Send the page, the passage and what you believe the correct position to be, and we will check it and amend where warranted. Substantive corrections are made in the text rather than buried in a footnote.

Topic requests are equally welcome. Several of the current briefings began as a question from a reader dealing with a supplier problem the existing material did not cover.
